Women of Color Interactive Product Map

Out of pure frustration and too much of my personal time being consumed looking for drugstore cosmetics brands marketed towards Women of Color in my local area, I decided to start an interactive product map.  G. over at Nouveau Cheap uses a similar interactive map with her readers to locate limited edition collections and I’ve seen it help shoppers immensely.

Tips on using the map:

• Allow time for the map to load, but it runs smoothly once loaded.
• The product legend is located at the bottom of the map, along with search options.  At the top right corner you’ll notice a pull-out tab (double arrows) to view the complete list of marks.
• For locations with multiple brand listings the marker will only show a single (random) color and the number inside the marker will indication the number of brands in the immediate area.  Once you click on the marker and close the box the next brand will appear (as though they are layered on top of each other).  This feature may be modified at a later time.
• When using the search option click on locate to find a geographical location and GeoSearch for product and store names.
• This map requires the input from you, the shopper.  It’s vital that you gals (or guys) contribute by adding markers when you see cosmetics brands marketed towards Women of Color.
• I approve markers daily, so don’t be alarmed if your marker does not immediately appear.  There is no need to add the same marker again.
• Your marker must include the brand’s name, store name, and complete address.
• You can use this link here to view the map in a new browser, but you must be on the actual blog post to add new markers.
• For the moment I want to focus on national brands that include the following, but if you have a brand that’s missing from the list feel free to mark it.  I welcome all suggestions.
