Carnival Wax Perfume Oil - handmade sample

Last month when Rooney Mara mentioned that she wears Agatha Blois Carnival Wax Perfume Oil, Black Amber, in Allure Magazine I nearly flipped over my chair to read a few reviews and place my order.  The fragrance blends are anything but typical and ordinary.  They have a very deep dark array of fragrances.  If you love wearing fragrances that people aren’t familiar with and can’t detect, Carnival Wax Perfume Oils are a great way to go.  I selected a 3-pack sample bundle of:

Sugarwitch – Which is described as “juicy lemon and tangerines, sugarpie and wildwoods”.  It came off as a lemony sugar cookie on me.  Like something out of BBW.  The wood notes played a back small role and were hardly noticeable.

Tea Flower – Which is described as “fresh grapefruit with orange blossoms, essence of green tea, warmed with vanilla and Chinese cinnamon”.  I love this fragrance and you can smell everything described.  It’s very sweet & clean but with a hint of spice because of the cinnamon, but it isn’t overpowering.  I’ll most likely save this one for Spring.

Dreabilly – Which is described as “smoke and dried wood, sugar and orange blossoms”.  Another one I loved.  Initially I couldn’t make heads or tails of this fragrance because it smelled like a pirate (or what I envision as a pirate) eating a sugar cookie.  The more I thought about it, it was like sugary incense.

Overall I love the fragrances and get 4-6 hours of wear.  I did have some issues with my order but would order again in the future. I was taken aback by Carnival Wax charging $5 for packaging & shipping, and an additional $2 for handling.  I’m all for companies marking up because they are in business to make a profit, but $7 for 3 samples that weigh little or nothing is a bit much.  I also don’t like paying handling…this should be included in shipping cost.  After all, no matter what you have to handle all orders.  Nonetheless, I bit the bullet and continued with my order.  I received my shipping confirmation and tracking number 3 days after my order was placed, which was reserved by shipper but no details for the tracking information.  It was shipped priority mail and should have taken a few days max for my order to arrive since we’re really close in distance but it took a lot longer than expected.  It was so bad I contacted the company to cancel the order.  I got a response a couple days later (I already received my order at that time) explaining how the delay was due to the holiday and USPS sending her materials late.  It took a full 10 business days to receive my order.  The policy does state 7-10 business days because orders are hand-poured. What caused the issue was sending tracking information stating that it was shipped when it was not.

Original Clean Eau de Parfum by Clean

When it comes to CLEAN you’ll either love it or hate it.  As much as I adore perfume I sometimes find myself in the mood to keep it clean and simple, so a perfume that smells like body soap or laundry detergent is appealing to me.  I understand that this may seem strange to people because when I talk about it I get nothing but a perplexed look from people.  If you’re not confused, please continue reading.

Original Clean by Clean opens with crisp burst orange and lime, followed by an arraignment of clean water smelling flowers (lily, lavender, violet, passion flower, and geranium).  It kind of smells like citrus floral laundry detergent.  You’ll either love it hate it.  But it does wear nicely on the skin and I get compliments when I wear it.  I could have held off on this purchase until the Spring because it just doesn’t fit the Winter mood.  For fragrances like this I don’t like to spend too much money on them so I picked this one up while I was in Downtown LA for around $30.  I’m glad I didn’t pick it up while I was at Sephora because the lasting power isn’t that great; it wears nicely for a few hours like an eau de toilette, for a eau de parfum I was expecting a little more.

The scent of Silky Underwear has got to be one of the most iconic LUSH scents. It’s been around for ages, and is always appearing in products. If you’ve ever tried Silky Underwear Dusting Powder, All that Jasmine, Fairy Jasmine or Alkmaar soap, you’ll recognize the soft, smoky scent of vetivert mixed with jasmine. The deep floral tones make this scent unforgettable. A soft and sophisticated, feminine fragrance. People are always asking us to make this scent into a perfume. Your wish has been granted! Jasmine absolute is said to relax the mind and body, and act as an aphrodisiac.

I love everything about Silky Underwear, it’s a very captivating yet simplistic fragrance.  Not only was it one of the first dusting powders but it was also one of the first products I purchased from Lush during my first visits.  I nearly lost my mind when I read that Lush was releasing limited edition perfumes of their fan’s favorite fragrances, and that Silky Underwear and Olive Branch would be included.  Upon first spritz Silky Underwear Perfume it had a detectable hint of spice but it diminished with in a couple minutes and balanced out to be fragrance that I’ve always loved.  Not straying from the original scents of cocoa butter, jasmine, and powdery and slightly spicy vetivert it;s every bit of perfection.  I’m in love!  I sprayed 2 spritz early morning and it lasted the entire day on my shirt and most of the day on my skin.

Since they’re limited edition for now I have to grab a couple.  I honestly can’t see why Lush would discontinue such a wonderful perfume but Lush loves to keep us on our toes when it comes to keeping products in rotation.  Only gripe, and it’s very minor and probably not worth mentioning is that I wish the top was matte like that bottle.  But I actually like the bottle and it’s matte black ruggedness….I love all black everything.

The Velvet Collection is an effortless reinvention of the concept of traditional luxury. An homage to the designers’ sartorial heritage and to their instictive ability to draw forth the essence of Mediterranean indulgence, the scents of the collection are opulent fragrances inspired by creative influences gathered from the sublimity of their lives. In an audacious inversion of subject matter, the artisan has become the muse, carrying the essence of Sicilian Baroque within.

Six scents, each bearing reference to specific olfactory influences coming from the designers themselves: sweet, woody Velvet Vetiver (with notes of galbanum, fig, and vetiver), raw, seductive Velvet Wood (with notes of ebony wood, benzoin, and leather), luxurious Velvet Patchouli (with notes of patchouli, kephalis, musk), sensual Velvet Sublime (with notes of mandarin, neroli, and orange flower), decadent Velvet Desire (with notes of gardenia, frangipani, and tuberose), and a rich, hypnotic Velvet Love (with notes of pepper, carnation, and ylang ylang). A collection where tradition and innovation collide in profound accord.

Each retails for $195.00/50ml and available exclusively at Saks Fifth Avenue beginning December 2011.

dolce & gabbana l'imperatrice 3 empress review

Launched by the design house of Dolce & Gabbana in 2009, L’Imperatrice (named after the Empress Tarot card) is a women’s fragrance with base notes that smell of soft musk with a fruity-beer twist. The scent is not too feminine. Even with a name like L’Imperatrice, a man can wear this fragrance.

Guess who has a new signature scent?  THIS girl!  During an early morning shopping excursion in Downtown LA while I was putting countless perfume bottles on the counter, possibly being a sales associate’s worse nightmare; pointing at everything and running of fragrance names a mile a minute, Angelo (our fashion and style contributor) presented me with Dolce & Gabbana L’Imperatrice.

Upon first sniff, you smell top notes of fruity watermelon and kiwi but with a boozy twist.  Not in a “hey were you drinking all night” type of way, but I do notice it.  The mid notes have a floral aquatic feel which makes it super clean and juicy, but not girlie-fruity.  It dries down to soft flora musk that’s not too feminine and even the right type of guy cold pull off.  And not to brag about the bargain but I only paid $45 (could have paid $40 if I wanted the full tester without the top).  I also saw the same deal online during a quick Google search.

The bottle is very class and straight to the point, rectangle-shaped made with heavy glass, topped with a gloss micro pleated top.  It isn’t purse friendly at this size and weight but I’m sure if I remove these 20 tubes of lip gloss I’ve have plenty of room….hell I will make room.

With this first fragrance, Maison Martin Margiela offers an intimate luxury. By naming it (untitled), the Maison defies all conventions to let its first fragrance speak for itself. Inspired by apothecary vials, the bottle seems dipped in paint before being sealed with white cotton strings, reflecting the Maison’s
craftsmanship know-how. The fragrance signature is made of exceptionally rare and noble ingredients: an unexpected contrast between incisive, dazzling green notes and a sensual dry down bursting with frankincense and white musk. A unique, harmonious and sensual trail.

Rihanna plans to launch her second fragrance, Rebelle by Rihanna, hitting Macy’s stores this December, WWD reports.

As with previous celebrity fragrance releases I expect this one to be in store within a matter of days.  I’m still not feeling this bottle but I’d give it a try :) .

Fragrance Notes:  Strawberry, ginger, plum, cacao, coffee and musk

Price:  $49 for a 1.7-oz. spray, $59 for 3.4-oz. spray and $30 for a 6.7-oz. body lotion. For the holidays, the scent will come in a special set that includes the star’s just-released CD, Talk That Talk, plus a bottle of Reb’l Fleur.

Kiehl's Coriander 1946 Essence Oil Roller Ball

Kiehl's Coriander 1946 Essence Oil Roller Ball

Kiehl's Coriander 1946 Essence Oil Roller Ball

While shopping at Nordstrom’s tonight I came across this tiny bottle of pure awesomeness; Kiehl’s “Coriander 1946” Essence Oil roller-ball.  For the past week I’ve been going through countless glossy’s looking for a fragrance to fall in love with but everything I came across smelled the same and quite frankly, boring.  I desperately needed something for fall.

Kiehl’s “Coriander 1946” Essence Oil is perfect.  I still don’t know how I was lucky enough to come across it.  The coriander is very mild and has a mellow role while soft patchouli, cream, and spices play a major role.  Something about this fragrance is very sensual & warm and very nostalgic.  I can even smell a hint of leather.

Sadly, it’ll be discontinued next year according to the sales rep.  I plan on buying at least 2 more bottles.  The lasting power is really good and I was able to get over 3 hours of wear from a tiny amount.  Since this is an oil expect it to carry well on the skin and give off a well balanced neautral scent; however I do wish it lingered on the skin and was more noticeable longer.

Dear @ChrisAtKiehls please don’t discontinue the Coriander 1946 roller-ball and if you do, please replace it with a full size bottle so I can luxuriate in it every night.

Love Krissy XOXO
