I’ll compare Skylark Nail Supply to Beauty Zone (both in Garden Grove) next week….both are within walking distance of one another but very different.  I spent $41 on this entire haul which seems like a bit much.

The Man and I normally don't make much of a fuss about Valentine's Day but this year we decided to give it a try. After 14 years he's forgotten that I'm allergic to pineapples. Guys are so funny lol.

Thanks Mom!

Something simple.  I wasn’t feeling hearts this year; normally I’m all about hearts, butterflies, and balloons.

I’m sure I’m late, but I didn’t have a clue that China Glaze was releasing a magnet polish collection.  Well I didn’t officially know.  We all know how China Glaze loves to jump on trends.  I don’t have any official information on these since I grabbed a bottle while at the International Salon and Spa Expo.  The collection consists of 6 magnetic nail lacquers and I purchased “Attraction” (metallic charcoal gray with a hint of tarnished gold micro shimmer) with the accompanying single 3-pattern design magnet.  The formula was very odd, but I was warned ahead of time that it is thick, and that it was.  I was able to do this manicure with a single coat, so not only is the formula thick but it was also well pigmented.  I was able to hold my nails up to the light and not see any blotches or nail tip.  The process is easy to follow and I did not find it to be time consuming; you polish the nail then apply the magnet being careful not to touch the wet, and you do this nail by nail.  I held the magnet over the wet nail for 15 seconds, but this still did not seem to make the design more pronounced.  This could be due to a weak magnet or that I should have used 2 coats, either way I still love the look.

Rusk

I’ve been a fan of Rusk professional hair care line for years, so I was excited to see them at the show.  They had their regular product line up and were also there to present the new Being Sexy line up, set to be releasing during Mary/ June 2012.  Sadly, I missed Nancy “the queen of great hair” O’Donnell yesterday signing autographs.  She’s so awesome…and that hair…

OPI Nail Lacquer

OPI Nail Lacquer had endless rows of polish.  There is no denying their cult-like following.

I bought a 1 ½” marcel curling iron from Hot Tools.  They didn’t have their steam rollers on hand, but I’ve been told that girls love them and naturals seem to love them too.

China Glaze was keeping the Hunger Games Collection under wraps until later, but I was pleasantly surprised to see their 6-piece Magnatix Collection on-hand.

Tsubame Scissors had one of the most impressive educators cutting hair with sheers.  He made it look so easy and flawless.  The doll’s hair cut looked amazing.  It actually has me considering a short ‘do…and we know I don’t do short hair.

China Glaze Wicked Style

China Glaze Wicked Style

Aquadelic – crème aqua blue with a splash of green; it has more neon tones than For Audrey.

Dance Baby – crème mid-tone cool baby blue

Electric Beat – crème periwinkle…it does have more blue but not nearly as much as my camera picked up.  Secret Periwinkle has more purple but isn’t as stark.

Fuchsia Fanatic – crème fuchsia pink with purple tones

Gaga for Green – crème grass green with yellow tones.  I was really hoping for more of a creaming somewhat pastel green from the press pictures.  It’s a shade (maybe a shade and a half) lighter than Starboard and less blue.  Both pretty but I don’t think you need both in your stash.

Gothic Lolita – mid-tone purple with multi-dimensional purple, pink, and blue shimmer.  It’s very pretty color that gives almost an iridescent glow.

Kinetic Candy – crème light blue crème.  Everything about this color is perfect, I love that it doesn’t have too much turquoise of green.

Make Some Noise – crème tangerine.  It’s a tad milder than High Hopes, which is brighter, but both are equally pretty.

Sunshine Pop – mildly frosted sunny yellow

Sweet Hook – crème lilac with hues of pink.  In the bottle it looks like OPI Steady as She Rose, but once on the nail it doesn’t look similar at all.

Techno – clear base with chunk and small hexagon glitter.  Kind of tired of seeing this combination.  I think we can retire it now.

Wicked Style – crème pink that actually does remind me of tropical punch

As much as I love this collection, I feel that CG was a little too ‘laxed with this collection.  Don’t get me wrong this collection has some collections that you’ll definitely want to hunt down, but with the high amount of dupes in this collection I can’t really tell where their focus was…possibly on the Hung Games Collection?

I found the application to be consistent across the board; they were all somewhat on the thicker side but with even color payoff.  Many of the colors could have been 1-coaters but I used 2 coats for each swatch.  The color payoff of the creamy pastels (Dance Baby, Kinetic Candy, and Sweet Hook) were great; which is good because most can really be a pain to apply with noticeable lines and blotchiness.  I did notice some inconsistencies with the brushes; some were thin, others were thick and flared out at the tip making it difficult to apply.  I’ve always talked about how China Glaze doesn’t have the best brushes.  I can only hope they improve on this in the future.  Brands often found at drugstores for around the same price have better brushes than these.

China Glaze Concrete Walk from the Metro Collection topped with Finger Paints Flecked from the Special Effects Collection.  I think the flashes of blue would have been more noticeable had I gone with a lighter shade of gray polish, but it shows up great in the shade, dim lighting, and during sunsets.  I went with Posh Nail-Strengthening Treatment Basecoat and Nubar Diamont Top Coat.

Los Angeles-based American International Industries, which says it is the country’s largest privately-held manufacturer of personal care and beauty products, filed a lawsuit Wednesday in LA Superior Court. The company claims that it closed a deal in late October to create a Hunger Games-branded version of its “China Glaze” nail polish, as well as contribute to the promotional campaign for the adaptation of the popular Suzanne Collins novel that Lionsgate is hoping will be a mega-blockbuster movie series similar to Twilight.

But shortly after Lionsgate executives signed the contract, according to the complaint, the studio made statements to the press that the deal was “not happening,” and asked American to say that the parties “were merely ‘discussing’ a ‘possible’ promotional deal.” American says it refused to lie, prompting a Lionsgate attorney to send an email on Nov. 17 saying that the studio was “terminating” the contract.

“However, the contract does not permit Lionsgate to unilaterally terminate,” argues the complaint, a copy of which was obtained by THR. “Lionsgate attempted to justify its actions by claiming that American had supposedly ‘leaked’ information about the contract to the press. The claim was and is completely untrue–American did not ‘leak’ any information, and so informed Lionsgate immediately.”

American says it purchased millions of dollars in nail polish materials and expended substantial time and labor in reliance on the fully-executed contract, and it wants $10 million in damages.

We’ve reached out to Lionsgate for comment and will update with a response.

The suit, filed by Charles Harder and Michelle Goodman of LA’s Wolf Rifkin Shapiro Schulman & Rabkin, alleges one cause of action for breach of contract.

Lionsgate declined to comment on the suit.
